Wedding License Information for Tennessee

  • A Tennessee marriage license is required. It may be applied for and purchased at any Tennessee County Courthouse or County Court Clerk's extension office and may be used the same day as applied for.

  • You must both be 18 or older. If you are under 18 you will need to contact the County Clerk's Office, as there are many circumstances that must be addressed.

  • If not a United States Citizen, you must both present a valid passport.

  • The license is valid for 30 days from the date of issue ONLY.

  • Marriage License Applications cannot be mailed to you. Both parties must appear in person to sign their Marriage License Application.

  • If either of you have been divorced or widowed; you will need to know the exact date that the divorce was final, or date of death. If bride has had a name change in her divorce and has not had her name changed on her driver's license, she will need to provide a certified copy of her divorce decree.

  • You must both present a valid driver's license from your home state OR a certified birth certificate. (Must present a social security card if your Social Security Number is not on your drivers license).

  • Fee for Out of State couples issued in Sevier County is $38.50 cash only and correct change is appreciated.

  • Fee for In State residents issued in Sevier County is $98.50 cash only and correct change is appreciated. The $60.00 fee will be waived if the applicants complete a 4 hour premarital preparation course and present a certificate of completion, which can be obtained through the County Clerk's Office.

  • Office hours for the County Clerk are as follows:

    Sevierville - (865) 453-5502 Monday through Thursday 8:00am until 4:00pm, Friday 8:00am until 6:00pm

    Gatlinburg - (865) 430-3404 Monday and Friday 8:30am until 4:00pm, Wednesday 8:30am until 12:00 noon

    Pigeon Forge - (865) 908-6613Saturday only 9:00am until 5:00pm
