Night Horseback Ride( Reservations Required, space is limited! Riders must be 10 or older.) Night trail rides by horseback set a different pace for the Great Smoky Mountains areas of Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge and Sevierville! A family run business, the owner believes in telling things the way they are. To get the feel of what this is like, I was asked to join them on their night ride. This is my description of this adventure. Our trail ride adventure began by saddling up 30 minutes prior to dusk. We meandered through the lower fields, across the creek bed and by the honeysuckle patches smelling like sweet perfumes. We soon broke into trail songs despite anyone's singing ability or the lack thereof. Having fun was all that mattered to riders and horseback guides alike. As we started up the foot of the mountain trails night filled the air with stars and a Quarter Moon. Glimmers of the path and wide open areas were lit with a bluish colored light and at times the trails became seemingly dark for these old eyes. The sense of being alone never struck me, as the song, talk, and clip clop of sure footed horses split the otherwise silent night. As night wore on we took notice of the lights that danced about. The very ground was like a twinkling Christmas tree covered by hundreds of bright glimmering lights. The lightning bugs were larger than any I have seen and put on a seemingly stunning choreographed light show. We took time to rest the horses on an open spot and swapped humorous stories with each other, time well spent getting to know the other riders and guides. As we rode the night breezes lightly brushed our faces and very soon, to our amazement, we were back upon the lower fields signaling the end of our cherished adventure. Crossing the creek many riders spoke of going on the Overnight Cookout in which I anxiously await the opportunity to experience and write about as well!
